The Treasury
Conducting a review of business taxation
Following the 1998 Federal election, the Treasurer, the Hon Peter Costello, MP, established a wide-ranging Review of Business Taxation. Mr John Ralph AO was appointed to chair the Review.
A key challenge for the Review was how to communicate reform options so as to engage business and the community in effective debate.
Rob McGregor worked closely with Sandy Aureli from Montague Leong Design as part of the Secretariat team. The brief was to help design and edit the global structure, chapter structure, diagrams and text of the Review's publications, including the final report.
The solution for the consultative documents included a rigorously applied chapter structure. 'We wanted to make the policy options crystal clear. So we gave readers a series of road maps to reform. Each chapter began with a diagrammatic overview of the key issues and associated proposals.'
The consultative documents and final report demanded logical structure, consistent layout and clear writing—reflecting a unified vision. According to Secretary to the Review, Dr Alan Preston, the presentation of the documents attracted widespread praise.
